FAQs

Do you have some questions about our boarding, daycare, or wedding chaperone service? You might find the answers below before getting in touch!

What if I require your services for longer/shorter than stated?

For our boarding and daycare services, we are unable to shorter the timeframes to cost less money. However, we can add on extra time to these packages if needed. For example, if you wanted to drop off on Monday at 9am and pick up o Tuesday at 6pm, this would mean you would require 1 night boarding (24 hours) plus a full day of daycare (9 hours).

For our Wedding Chaperone Packages, you are able to tailor these packages to your needs. All costs can be broken down into a personalised quote following consultation if required.

Where will my dog sleep during the night?

We are a home from home establishment. Therefore, no kennels or crates are used throughout the premises (unless your dog is crate trained). If your dog is crate trained, we will ask you to bring your dogs crate with you for their stay.

All our dogs are kept in separate rooms throughout the night and are monitored with cameras for the first 2-3 hours. If your dog doesn’t settle on their own, we will intervene and try to make your dog as comfortable as possible. If this means sleeping downstairs with your dog, then that’s what we’ll do!

Do you accept cash or bank transfer?

What happens during the day? Will my dog have a walk?

We include a 30 minute walk into all overnight and 9 hour daycare services here at Alfie’s Retreat. In the summer, it might be more! However this is dependent on heat.

We also include enrichment activities into our daycare schedule, meaning your dog will have mental stimulation alongside physical exercise. Our ball pit, snuffle mats, and treat obstacle courses are a favourite with our regulars.

What if there’s a problem/emergency whilst my pet is in your care?

All staff at Alfie’s Retreat are fully qualified in canine first aid and have the experience to confidently manage a wide range of scenarios. As our standard practice, arranging a meet and greet with you allows us to get to know your dog and therefore prevent any behavioural issues to occur with other dogs. In the unlikely event this may happen, or your dog becomes injured in any way, our standard practice is to notify you or your emergency contact of this issue and notify the named vets on your registration form. In the event of a life threatening emergency, our handler will transport your dog to the vets ASAP and notify you en route.

It it’s important to provide as much information as possible In your registration form to ensure were fully aware of any allergies/medical issues for your dog.

Do you accept intact dogs?

Yes we do. However, this is on a monitoring basis to begin with.

As we are a small establishment and only keep up to 5 dogs at any one time, we’re able to control the environment a lot easier, meaning we can monitor any humping/dominance behaviours by intact males.

If your dog isn’t suitable for our services we will let you know after the first 1-2 stays.

We do accept intact females, however not if they are in season or if their season ended less than two weeks prior to their stay. This is because having a female dog in season can often change the dynamics of a pack of dogs. Not just the males, but the females as well.

What should I bring with me for my dogs stay?

We advise owners to bring anything they feel will make their dog comfortable during their stay. This would include, food, bed, crate (if crate trained), and any toys/blankets that are usually used. Where we may not allow access to toys/blankets during our daycare, if staying overnight we will ensure all belongings are provided for your dog to feel comfortable and settled through the night.

Top Tip: Dogs are very grateful to have something with their owners scent on if staying overnight with us. It allows them to feel at home if they’re feeling a little home sick.
